Mr. Salvatore Geraci will lead the Wine Tasting
Palari is one of the most famous wineries in Sicily, where, in the area of Faro de Santo Stefano, Messina, in only about 15 acres in total of vines, one of the most elegant wines anywhere is produced.
According to archeological nds, there is evidence that wine production in this area dates back to the fourteenth century BC. An ancient and noble wine was produced and commercialised until the beginning of this century, when the presence of phylloxera drastically reduced production. By 1985, it had practically disappeared.
At this time, the successful architect, Salvatore Geraci, and his family resumed production of this wine, under the name Palari. Geraci’s intent was that of nding and maintaining the qualities that made Faro renown worldwide. Working together with his friend Luigi Veronelli, and following his advice in making and bottling wine, the use of modern technology was introduced, all the while respecting the traditions. Eventually, Donato Lanati, an internationally af rmed Piemontese enologist, became directly involved in the production. Under his expertise, the indigenous grapes, such as Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio, Nocera Tignolino Palumba, as well as lesser known ones, have continued to be used in the cultivation DOC of Palari wine.
The rst year of production was in 1990. Upon tasting the Palari wine, Veronelli wrote an article in the popular Italian magazine Espresso, de ning Geraci as the “Romanée Conti of Italy.”Palari soon became an important name in the worldwide panorama of ne wine, recognised with the highest values in all of the winery guides. The quality of the Palari wine, especially the extraordinary “Il Faro,” in addition to its scrupulous cultivation, is attributed to the particular position of the vines, overlooking the Strait of Messina on steep slopes close to a 70% incline, the microclimate created with the rise in altitude of 1,475 feet above sea level, and the nature of the terroir.
