Uncorked in … Rome
Selection & Text: Chandra Kurt
The „eternal city“ Rome is located in the sixth largest wine-growing region in Italy, Lazio. Winemaking here dates back to the Etruscans, the Latins and finally the ancient Romans. In the gently hilly landscape on the Mediterranean coast, about 100,000 hectares of vines, whose soils are predominantly of volcanic origin, thrive. Those who are in Rome should not only discover the local wines, but also visit the following wine spots, which belong to my favorite.
Hotel De‘ Ricci
A boutique hotel with an affinity for wine, created by the founders of the „Chez Dédé“ label, Andrea Ferolla and Daria Reina. The rooms are furnished in the retro-chic style of the 50s and have a wine fridge and delicate wine decorations. The small oasis of pleasure with eight suites includes a magnificent wine cellar with 1500 wines, the Charade Bar and a Smokers Lounge. The idea came from Lorenzo Lisi, who also runs the historic family restaurant Pierluigi.
